Bad early critic reviews point to a magical masterpiece

Evila big screen adaptation of the famous theater production that regularly makes waves throughout New York City is finally will be in cinemas in November. From the few early critics of the film floating around, we know that anyone even remotely interested in The Wonderful Wizard of Ozor theater production in general, will be in for a treat. They call it a “masterpiece” and a “miracle.”

Evil tells the story of Elphaba, known as The Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch, in their earliest days as college students at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. With her unusual green skin and lack of understanding of her unique powers, Elphaba becomes the target of hostilities. But an unlikely friendship forms between Elphaba and Glinda before the two encounter a crossroads that will alter their fates and change the landscape of Oz forever.

Over on IMDB, Evil is slowly declining in popularity, although it is still in the top 50 upcoming releases, making it a top pick for the fall season. On Rotten Tomatoes, it’s too early to tell. No official critic or fan reviews are available, leaving the film’s rating unavailable.

From director Jon M Chu (Crazy rich Asians and In the Heights) and with Cynthia Erivo (Bad times at the El Royale), Ariana Grande (Don’t look up), and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic World Dominion), Evil officially hits theaters on Friday, November 22. It is a musical fantasy adventure with a running time of two hours and 40 minutes, which makes it somewhat challenging for those with young children who cannot sit still in the theater.

Whether or not you want a child with you, some early previews of Evil indicate childlike wonder waiting at the theater:

Black, Katcy Stephan:

“I was ‘pessimistic’ going in, but…WICKED is a masterpiece. Ariana Grande makes Glinda sparkle: she milks every moment with gusto, humor and hair flips. Jon M. Chu added so much new life to the story that I can see why it had to be 2 parts! Worth waiting 20 years.”

Vanity Fair, Chris Murphy:

“I’ve seen the Wicked movie not once, not twice, but three separate times now, and trust me when I say it’s complete and utter murder, you’ll be gagged beyond belief. Everything you think the movie is like from your broken iphones is wrong. Cynthia and Ari are truly impeccable.”

We live entertainment, Scott Menzel:

“Wicked is a cinematic spectacle that serves as one of the very best adaptations of a Broadway musical ever. Jon M. Chu perfectly captures the magic of the Broadway show while adding some of his own unique flourishes to the source material. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo absolutely knocks it out of the park as Elphaba and Galinda. Wicked lives up to the hype as well. Oh, and there’s one scene fans of the Broadway show will absolutely love lose your mind. Wicked is without a doubt one of the best movies of the year.”

WBAL-TV, Lauren Veneziani:

“One of the most perfect musical adaptations ever. #WickedMovie exceeded my expectations. Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande are a match made in cinematic musical heaven, one dance scene in particular made me so emotional. Wow. Can’t wait to see it again! It’s Shiz!!”

the packaging, Drew Taylor:

“#Wicked is solid – sumptuously realized, sometimes quite moving (both leads are great). But it also falls into some of the traps of Disney’s live-action remakes that diminish its power – too long, noisy, overdesigned. All in all in all I liked it a lot and can’t wait for part 2.”
