Martha Stewart had a complicated relationship with her daughter Alexis, but everything seems to be fine now. Martha Stewart Living The Omnimedia mogul and her daughter have been open about their unconventional parenting ways, and it seems to be making them closer.

Alexis was born to Martha and Andrew Stewart on September 27, 1965 in New York City. Martha and Alexis have been very vocal about how dysfunctional her childhood has been with her mother in the spotlight. “I think we did a bad job as parents,” Andrew told People. “We were too involved in our professional lives and in fixing the house. We always made the home a mythological place. But it wasn’t a home – we didn’t spend enough time with Lexi.”

“Feelings, we didn’t talk about anything like that,” Alexis said in Netflix’s Martha. “It was not part of our upbringing. We were loved a little bluntly when we needed to be loved. I mean, there wasn’t much affection in our house.” She even recalled an odd time during the holidays. “She used to make me wrap my own presents,” she wrote. “She would give me things right before Christmas and say, ‘Now send these in, but don’t look in’.”

Alexis currently resides in New York City after she and her mother purchased a duplex unit in the Upper West Side for $12.3 million. They live in Belnord, a block-long luxury development used for exterior shots of the Arconia apartments in Hulu’s comedy-mystery series Only murder in the building.

She has two children, a daughter Jude and a son Truman, both of whom she welcomed via gestational surrogate. Martha was overjoyed when she heard the news that she was going to be a grandmother and had always supported her through her fertility problems. She also supports her daughter’s decision not to include them in her Netflix documentary. “There’s not even a mention. And it’s these grandchildren absolutely fantastic,” she told the New York Times. “My daughter was very much against the children being included. But I could have talked about them, and I did. I have taken them to the most unusual places in the world and they are only 12 and 13.”

Alexis married attorney John Cuti in an intimate ceremony in New York City. They divorced in 2004 not long after he represented her mother in the 2003 trial. From 2005 to 2010, Alexis hosted Whatever about Alexis and Jenniferwith Jennifer Hutt on SiriusXM’s Martha Stewart Living Radio channel. She and Hutt also wrote Whateverland: Learn to live here. “Martha makes everything better! You can’t win,” she wrote, sore People. “If I didn’t do something perfectly, I had to do it again. But now Alexis seems to be closer to her mother than ever. “We’re incredibly close and we’re both very opinionated people,” she continued Today. “So while we can be together and have a good time, we can also have an animated discussion and argue about something.
