Farmington Hills man feels ‘humbled’ after winning $5M ​​playing Mega Millions

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A Farmington Hills man woke up in the middle of the night to discover he had won $5 million playing Mega Millions.

Tyrone Fergerson, 53, matched the five white balls in the September 24, 2024 drawing and won a $1 million prize. The numbers were: 01-06-10-23-27. Because he had the Megaplier, his prize was multiplied to $5 million.

“I play Mega Millions once a week, and I always play this set of numbers that are made up of special dates,” Fergerson said. “I woke up in the middle of the night so I decided to check my ticket. I said a prayer and then looked up the winning numbers. I recognized them immediately and was at a loss for words when I saw that I won not $1 million but $5 million dollars! All I can say is winning is incredible and I feel humbled and grateful!”

He purchased his winning ticket at the Chill Box Convenience Store, located at 29801 West 9 Mile Road in Farmington Hills.

“Learning you’ve won $5 million in the middle of the night is the type of thing lottery players dream of, and it became a reality for Mr. Fergerson,” Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said. “Congratulations to Tyrone, Michigan’s Newest Millionaire – Thanks to the Michigan Lottery’s Mega Millions Game!”

Fergerson recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He said he plans to take care of his family with his winnings.

When are the Mega Millions drawings?

Mega Millions drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11pm Eastern Time, 10pm Central Time, 9pm Mountain Time and 8pm Pacific Time. Drawings will be held on WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia.

How do you play Mega Millions?

Each Mega Millions game is $2. For an additional $1 per game, players can add a “Megaplier” that can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to five times.

Five white balls are drawn from a set of balls numbered from 1 to 70, and a gold mega ball is drawn from a set of balls numbered from 1 to 25.

You win if the numbers on one row of your ticket match the numbers on the drawn balls on that date. There are nine ways to win a prize, from $2 to the jackpot.

If no one wins the jackpot, the money is added to the jackpot for the next draw. Total odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.
