With the 2024 general election less than a week away, San Juan County Elections Office is here to help you vote. The office will be open on Saturday 2 November and Sunday 3 November from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help with personal registration, update addresses, hand out new ballots and more.

To register to vote in Washington State, you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • Washington state resident
  • At least 18 years old (If you are 16 or 17, you can register as a The voter of the future and be automatically registered to vote when you qualify)
  • Not disqualified from voting by court order
  • Not currently serving a sentence of total confinement in prison under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections for a felony conviction in Washington
  • Not currently incarcerated for a federal or out-of-state felony conviction

You can register to vote in the general election on 5 November in person at County election office until 8 p.m. on election day. The office is located in the center of Friday Harbor, across from the Courthouse.

Elections count hours

  • Monday – Friday: 8:00 – 16:30
  • Saturday & Sunday November 2 and 3: 9:00 – 16:00
  • Election day: 8.00 – 20.00

Where to vote

Voters can return their ballots to any official drop box or free by mail using the prepaid envelopes included with each ballot. Ballots must be mailed and postmarked no later than November 5 or placed in an official Washington State drop box or polling center no later than 5 p.m. 20.00 that day.

Important notes:

  • Ballots are postage prepaid and must be postmarked by November 5th or returned to any official Washington state ballot box by 5 p.m. 20.00 on election day. Ballot drop off locations in San Juan County can be found here.
  • Official ballot boxes are locked and sealed with a numbered security seal. The official ballot boxes are emptied by a team of two San Juan County Election employees.
  • You can check the status of your submitted ballot by logging into VoteWA.gov

Frequently asked questions about voting by mail

If it is sent by post USPS recommend that you email a week before election day. If the mail is sent on election day, you must have the post office handstamp your ballot. San Juan County’s mail is delivered to Seattle and processed the following day.
