Polls suggest the 2024 presidential election could be the closest in decades. (Of course, the polls could just as easily be wrong.) But numbers aside, there is little doubt that the American electorate feels particularly divided and polarized, with a clear risk of political violence and a likelihood of legal challenges to the election.
