After an 0-2 start to the season, the Nuggets are back on track after back-to-back wins. Nikola Jokic & Co. most recently scored in a 144-139 overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. Jokic led the way with another triple-double (29 points, 18 rebounds, 16 assists), while Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray each had 24 points.

As for the Timberwolves, they are hoping to get back into the win column after falling 120-114 to the Dallas Mavericks two nights ago. Although Anthony Edwards scored 37 points, it was not enough to stop the Mavs as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 59 points.

Nevertheless, tonight marks the first Nuggets-Timberwolves meeting since the second round of the 2024 NBA postseason. The Northwest Division rivals need a full seven games to decide the series, and in the end, Minnesota finishes with a 98-90 victory over Denver in Game 7 to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

Things have been pretty even between these rivals for some time. Including this playoff series, the Timberwolves and Nuggets have each won seven of their last 14 meetings.

The Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets in seven games in Round 2 of the 2023-24 playoffs.

If the Nuggets want to win tonight, they need a stronger effort. Their only two wins this season came in overtime against the Nets and Toronto Raptors — two teams projected to be among the worst in the NBA this year. Meanwhile. they crumbled when facing legitimate teams in the LA Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder.

While the Timberwolves haven’t been perfect, at least they defeated the Raptors by 11 points in regulation and also picked up a win against a solid Sacramento Kings team. While things didn’t go as planned against the Mavericks, the T-wolves only lost that outing by two possessions.

Ultimately, I think defense could be the difference here. The Nuggets struggle to defend the ball and allow the seventh most points per game. game at the 11th highest field goal percentage with the 10th worst defensive efficiency.

On the flip side, the Timberwolves rank 12th, 18th and 15th in those respects. Not perfect either, but not nearly as bad as the opposition.

The Timberwolves’ defense has been better than the Nuggets’ to begin the 2024-25 season.

While this could end up being a close game, I’ll take it Timberwolves to stand tall at home. Both sides have left a lot to be desired this season, but the Timberwolves are closer to being a complete team. The Nuggets struggle to defeat cellar-dwellers, and their lackluster defensive play makes them hard to rely on against the likes of Edwards, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert.

With that in mind, regardless of who wins, you take Over on the total of 218 points is a no-brainer. After all, the Nuggets’ last two outings averaged 267.5 total points, while two of the Timberwolves’ last three games exceeded tonight’s projected mark.

Considering how Over is 7-3 in the last 10 Denver-Minnesota games at Target Center, I’d say there’s a good chance we’ll see quite a few points scored tonight.

Best Nuggets vs Timberwolves NBA Player Prop (11/1)

Even though Rudy Gobert is one of the best defensive centers in the NBA, he can’t contain Nikola Jokic. That’s why I’m taking the Serbian superstar to score o27.5 points (-104) for the best Nuggets vs. Timberwolves player plug bet.

Jokic is off to a great start to the 2024-2025 campaign. The three-time NBA MVP is averaging 31.5 points on .573/.550/.778 splits through four games and has finished with the Over on that prop in each of his last three outings — including a pair of 40-point efforts. He will now face the Timberwolves, who he has handled quite well in recent years.

In his last 13 meetings with Minnesota, Jokic is averaging 31.3 points while shooting 51.9% from the floor and 33.3% from deep. He scored 28-plus points nine times during that stretch, including hitting Over four times during the second-round playoff series.

In other words, you should feel pretty confident about this Jokic prop.
