Innovative Ornaments, Pink Trees — West Elm’s Gone “Kitschmas” |

For many of us, Christmas decorations are valuable pieces that we collect over the years. Maybe you bought one while on vacation in NYC, or to celebrate your first job, your favorite dog, or your go-to drink to share with friends. Yes, they may be kitsch, but they each carry emotion and remind you of cherished moments.

Well, this year West Elm seems to be embracing “Kitschmas” with a wonderful light and kitschy Christmas collection with novelty embellishments of espresso martinis, sparkly cowboy hats, knit sweaters and even shucked oysters. And it’s not the first time they’ve taken this creative direction. Last year, West Elm’s retro pink tinsel Christmas tree went viral online (and it’s back, better than before).

Hannah Bartlett, an interior designer and lover of all things holiday, says she’s a big fan of kitschy Christmas decorating ideas. “The trend for non-traditional decor and playful, unexpected ornaments is more popular than ever,” she says. “The key to keeping it elevated is creating consistency through a consistent color palette or theme.”

But there are many different genres when it comes to decorating for Christmas, and there is something in this collection for everyone. Because at the end of the day, Christmas decorations are about embracing what’s important to you and making new and even more cherished memories in your own way.
