Restaurant Roundup: Taco Bell throwbacks, family-style dining

Taco Bell relive the past with the limited-edition return of five of the most sought-after nostalgic menu items from the first five decades. Starting today, the 60’s Tostada, 70’s Green Sauce Burrito, 80’s Meximelt and 90’s Gordita Supreme were released. On November 21, the 00’s Caramel Apple Empanada will be on the menu. Each item is less than $3. The 60’s Tostada is an original item, one of six that were on the menu in 1962 at Taco Bell’s first walkup location in Southern California.

Seam Umami Cafe & Catering continues to shift focus to catering, the cafe’s opening hours are cut to 10am-2pm Saturday with a limited menu. It will continue to stock its grab-and-go refrigerator at the cafe, which is in Signature Flight Support at 3501 N. Aviation Ave., north of the airport terminal. Family meals are also returning as the weather cools. They can be collected on Fridays and Saturdays. Orders must be placed no later than Thursday at 17.00. This week’s offerings were goulash, chicken pot pie, and langostino-lobster-mac-and-cheese. They typically cost $30 to $35 and serve four to six people. Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mexican Catering is hosting its seventh annual Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire Shoe Drive. Navarrete will earn his Taco bus menu at the first event and a $10 taco bar at the other locations. Proceeds and extra donations go towards buying new sneakers. Here are the dates: Saturday at The Blind Butcher Brewing Co. near Inwood, Iowa; 9 November at Windy city bite; 16 November at Severance Brewing Co.; Nov. 22 at the VFW in Brandon; and Nov. 23 at the Masonic Center, 520 S. First Ave. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. More than 1,000 pairs of branded shoes have been donated since the fundraiser started.

Rush has made a few changes to its weekly specials menu. New offers are meatloaf on Wednesdays and a turkey dinner on Fridays. Sloppy Joes on Tuesdays are a recurring favorite.

We were unable to tell you about the winning designs in Oh My Cupcakes’ annual Halloween contest in time for you to buy them, but we wanted to give a shoutout to the winners anyway. These sweet pumpkin and mummy cupcakes were designed by Kensi and Everly, who each received a dozen cupcakes with their winning look.

Changes in hours, service

  • Falls Landing Bar & Grill at the Country Inn & Suites downtown is temporarily closed due to a change in management, according to a note on the restaurant’s door and on Facebook. The operator who leases the space closed the restaurant on Monday.
  • Severance Brewing Co.’s winter time starts Friday: 14:00 to 21:00 Tuesday to Thursday, noon to 23:00 Friday and Saturday, and noon to 18:00 Sunday.
  • Taco Vault in Worthing has updated its opening hours since opening on 15 October. It is open from 10am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 11pm Friday and Saturday and 9am to 9pm Sunday.
  • Now that the season is over for it Falls Park Farmers Market, Songbird Kombucha is back to having shop opening hours from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays.
