In Game 4 yesterday, The Yankees avoided elimination by beat the Dodgers 11-4 in New York and cut Los Angeles’ series lead to 3-1. However, the Dodgers remain one win away from winning the best-of-seven championship race and will get their second chance to claim the Commissioner’s Trophy when the teams square off again at Yankee Stadium tonight.

The Yankees are trying to extract the unprecedented; no team in the 121-year history of the World Series has come back from 3-0 down to be crowned MLB champions.

Who is Hideki Matsui?

Matsui spent 10 seasons in the MLB between 2003 and 2012, enjoying the crowning glory of his North American career with the Yankees. In 2009, the designated hitter starred to New York when the franchise won its most recent championshipand beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in the World Series. Matsui, nicknamed “Godzilla”, won the World Series MVP award.

A two-time All-Star, Matsui also played for the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays in the MLB. Before moving to the United States, he was a three-time Japanese champion with the Yomiuri Giants of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league, winning the Japan Series MVP award in 2000.
