Liz Cheney urges George W. Bush to endorse Kamala Harris

Liz Cheney urged George W. Bush to endorse Kamala Harris for president, saying she can’t explain why he hasn’t said anything already.

Speaking to David Remnick at the New Yorker Festival on Oct. 26, Cheney said, “I can’t explain why George W. Bush hasn’t spoken out, but I think it’s time, and I’d like him to would.”

Cheney, the daughter of Bush’s vice president, Dick Cheney, has been a public surrogate for Harris throughout the election, vocal about her belief that Republicans must put “country over party” to keep out Donald Trump.

Pressure has been mounting on Bush to make a public statement as several people close to him personally and politically have endorsed Harris in the past month.

Dick Cheney endorsed Harris in September. It was announced by his daughter at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin.

That was confirmed by Dick Cheney, who wrote in a statement: “In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election by using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the electorate rejected him, he can never be trusted with power again.”

Over 200 of Bush’s former staffers have openly supported Harris, including former Bush communications director Nicolle Wallace, who told MSNBC on Nov. 1 that she hopes her former employer has a “change of heart” after his office previously said he will not support anyone in this race.

George W. Bush’s team has been reached for comment by email outside normal business hours.

Even Bush’s daughter, Barbara Pierce Bush, was seen working for Harris in Pennsylvania in mid-October, along with Glee actress Dianna Agron.

Speaking to People Magazine about her choice to knock on the door for Harris, she said, “It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend. I hope they will move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”

Liz Cheney has paid a political price for her never-Trump views. After joining the committee on Jan. 6, Cheney lost his House seat to a pro-Trump candidate in 2022.

She has also been subjected to personal threats. Wallace, who urged his former boss to change his stance, came after Trump’s comments on Oct. 31, when he said Cheney should “have guns trained on her face.”

Bush, on the other hand, has not been involved in politics since 2008, and has instead enjoyed life as a painter at home in Texas.
