Here’s part of a breakdown of how the Cavs spoiled LeBron and Bronny James’ homecoming with an emphatic win from cleveland.com Cavs beat writer Chris Fedor:

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cavs didn’t care that it was homecoming night.

Burned by a reckless first quarter, Cleveland overwhelmed the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, 134-110, spoiling LeBron James’ only return of the regular season.

It’s the Cavs’ fifth straight win to open the season, the franchise’s best start since 2016-17. They are the only remaining undefeated team in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.

“We’ve got a ways to go,” Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said. “We are developing, we are still learning from each other. Still a work in progress. But it feels like we’re heading in the right direction.”

Leading into the game, James, who has been under the weather for about a week, talked about how special Wednesday night would be. It wasn’t just being back in the building he called home for 11 brilliant seasons, always one of the most anticipated games on the schedule. But this time his oldest son – and Lakers teammate – Bronny would be there with him.

Not even as a spectator.

To commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime event, the Cavs welcomed both players back during the first stop of Wednesday’s matchup — a one-minute tribute that featured a video tribute featuring various clips from LeBron’s time in Cleveland, including some moments spent with a younger Bronny during the Cavs’ 2016 championship celebration.

“I didn’t really get an opportunity to seize the moment because we were getting hit,” LeBron said after the game. “I was kind of angry. I was kind of angry at that point in that timeout, so I didn’t get the opportunity to really like, appreciate it. But I heard it. It was a pretty cool moment.”

For most of the night, the James-related hoop took a backseat to Cleveland’s near-wire-to-wire dominance.

With an aggressive Donovan Mitchell leading the offensive attack, Cleveland made 10 of its first 12 shots and quickly went ahead by double figures.

By the end of the first quarter, the Cavs had erupted for 42 points, shooting 17 of 22 from the field and 8 of 13 from 3-point range. They were up 19 after the first 12 minutes — and never let up, pushing the lead to a game-high 28 at one point.

The only question left: Would Bronny get a chance to play on the course he used to visit as a child?

After all, he had only logged three minutes up to that point — all in the team’s Oct. 22 season opener, more of a ceremonial appearance so Bronny and Dad could become the first-ever father-son duo to play in NBA together.

Around 8:30 in the fourth quarter Wednesday night, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse echoed with “We want Bronny” chants.

A few minutes later, the 20-year-old, who was born at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital about 40 minutes away, jumped off the Lakers bench and strolled calmly to the scorer’s table. He received a hero’s welcome when he checked in for the first time, and then another massive ovation came at the 2:03 mark when Bronny buried a mid-range jumper for his first NBA basket.

It was one of the few highlights for the Lakers.

“It was just a dream come true for me,” Bronny said. “It felt really good. I was still in game mode when I hit the shot, so I didn’t really recognize it while I was playing. But yeah, it felt good afterwards.”
