Billetmaster effigy to be burnt at Edenbridge Bonfire Night after controversy over Oasis tickets

A giant image of ticketing website Ticketmaster will go up in flames at an annual fireworks festival.

The annual Edenbridge Bonfire celebration, which takes place in the town’s recreation ground, has announced that this year an image of the online ticket retailer will be lit as part of its display.

It comes after controversy over people facing long queues and problems trying to get tickets for the much-anticipated Oasis reunion next year.

The Edenbridge Bonfire Society has today revealed it will burn a wooden effigy in a blue suit and money signs representing the venue, which also features Noel and Liam Gallagher dolls, on Saturday 2 November.

The procession usually starts around 18.30, and the fireworks start a few hours later.

Last year, an effigy of London Mayor Sadiq Khan was burnt following his controversial ULEZ plan, with former Prime Minister Liz Truss set on fire the previous year.

Truss was pictured with a Guinness Book of World Records as the shortest-serving prime minister in the country’s history and lettuce on her shoulder, a reference to the Daily Star’s live stream of an iceberg lettuce, which surpassed her time at number 10.

Every year since 1994, a 10m high celebrity effigy has been burnt as part of the celebrations.

In the past, the wooden figure has taken the form of Boris Johnson, Donald Trump, Katie Hopkins, Jonathan Ross, Katie Price, Wayne Rooney, Lance Armstrong, Gordon Brown, John Prescott, Anne Robinson and Saddam Hussein.

The community has been celebrating Bonfire Night for more than 90 years and has been known to have more than 750 people in its torchlit parade through Edenbridge High Street.
